The latest edition of the DLRmagazine, the German Aerospace Center’s modern science communications publication, is now available – with a little help from us!  EJR-Quartz is responsible for the English edition of this publication.

In the latest issue of the DLRmagazine we delve into the fascinating world of quantum computing with the cover story ‘Qubits hit the ground running’. Quantum computers have long been considered among the most exciting future scientific prospects. The article provides an insight into the unprecedented possibilities afforded by the new technology and highlights the many ways in which DLR is involved through its Quantum Computing Initiative.

Next, we’re treated to an overview of Matthias Maurer’s Cosmic Kiss mission. The German ESA astronaut is scheduled to launch to the International Space Station (ISS) on 31 October 2021. In the ‘Cosmic heartbeat’ article we learn about Maurer’s preparation for the mission and the experiments that will take place on board the ISS.

Once again, wind and solar energy play a central role in this issue, as we get a sneak peek of the currently under construction Krummendeich Research Wind Farm and celebrate the 10th anniversary of the DLR Institute of Solar Research.

But there’s much more! NASA’s asteroid mission Lucy, which was launched on 16 October, is given an extensive presentation, and we dive into the DLR Central Archive to pay tribute to the ‘female computers’ – the young women who performed calculations for DLR’s predecessor organisations.

As always, the DLRmagazine features news, articles, interviews, retrospectives and media reviews. How does that sound? You can download issue 168 in digital format or subscribe to receive a printed copy of the magazine free of charge.

Happy reading!
